Affen Segun Nigerian, b. 1993

Affen is a contemporary artist who is motivated by the Black culture and sees Black Culture as a source of inspiration for his art.  His passion for creating portraits brought to life through the use of acrylic hues and African patterned fabrics and his ability to capture emotions on the faces of his muses has attracted a large audience for his works (over 18K Instagram followers).

Affen brings an extensive mastery of color theory, innate sense of rhythm, and compositional elements to each painting. Affen sees himself as an optical illusionist whose art defies spacial limitations. His art is visual poetry bursting forth with relentless energetic expression.

Affen's art has garnered recognition from outside of Nigeria, where he's had several exhibitions in the United Kingdom as well as several award nominations and magazine features.  Affen has created paintings for several Nigerian celebrities such as, Mayorkun, Skiibii, Zlatan, Davido, Wizkid and others.

Affen has developed his own visual vocabulary and inimitable style.  He invites us to view the Black culture as a magical, fluid, and invigorating lifestyle. Through his paintings we experience Black culture with a new expansive and compelling perspective.
