Biography
Are we not more complex than a safari?

Founded by Ogechi Harry in 2019, ulo (meaning "home" in Igbo) was created due to the lack of interesting options found in surface pattern design often seen in homewares.  When Ogechi sought to decorate her daughter's nursery with a modern African flare, she could only find cliché depictions of African stereotypical themes - lions, monkeys, elephants.  She decided to fill this void by creating patterns that tell a different story about Africa, a neo-African story full of color, humor, pattern, and global modernity.  ulo created organic GOTS-certified bedding for adults and children crafted by artistans located in India. ulo also sold trendy woven homewares made women co-ops in Ghana, Rwanda, and Uganda.

ulo was a participant of the West Elm Local Artist Program and held pop-ups at the Chicago Lincoln Park location.  ulo was also a Perigold vendor.

Currently, ulo is a part of Golden Our Collective featuring surface pattern designs for licensing.
